Clinical Psychologist
OCD can acquire a tight grip on whole families, taking away people’s freedoms to thrive or even simply to feel well. Furthermore, OCD can be easily misunderstood by others as well as making people doubt themselves and the world around them.
Fortunately, there are highly effective evidence-based therapies that help people to overcome OCD, and to regain agency over their life. In my work helping children and adults to get unstuck from OCD over the past ten years (including in school settings, in mental health services, and in a specialist OCD service), it has been incredibly rewarding to witness people use these therapies to gain empowerment and reclaim their lives from OCD, even severe OCD.
As a therapist I would hope to help you feel seen and understood, and we will go at your pace as you acquire effective tools to take back ground from OCD. I would think of myself as another member of your support team, and often it is worth considering together if there are other members of your team (e.g. siblings, parents, teachers) that would be helpful to involve in this work to best support you toward your goals.
One of my specialist areas is working with primary school age children but we can also consider whether it would be preferable for parent-only sessions with the view that parents then transfer the understanding and tools with their child at home in ways that feel familiar to the child.
