How we work

Assessment

Initially, we offer an assessment, which can take up to 2 hours. This is an opportunity for us to get to know you and includes an in-depth exploration of current symptoms, a history of the difficulties, a review of previous treatment and your hopes and expectations for therapy.

We will also complete a Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS) or Children's Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (CYBOCS), the gold standard measure for OCD severity, to obtain a severity score and baseline against which to measure progress in treatment. Following your assessment we will discuss and agree on a treatment plan together, depending on your individual needs.

Treatment

Your specific treatment plan will be discussed and agreed at the end of your assessment, depending on your individual needs. OCD treatment is likely to be between 10 and 20 weekly 50-minute sessions of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), in line with the evidence-base.

We start with a period of psycho-education, to learn about OCD, what maintains it, and how to break the cycle. We then move on to Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) tasks, which we complete in session together weekly. We will also agree on homework tasks together every week.

We will schedule review sessions regularly to monitor progress and consider any changes to maximise the effectiveness of sessions. Treatment plans and sessions will be designed and adapted based on your individual needs.

Supervision

We offer specialist supervision to Clinical Psychologists working with OCD. Please do get in touch to think about your particular supervision requirements.

Who we work with

We work with both young people and adults, and you do not need to have a prior diagnosis to access our support. If you are suffering from OCD, or think you might be, we will be happy to help.

We are experienced in working with neurodiversity (including Autism Spectrum Conditions and ADHD) and will work together with you to adapt sessions based on your individual needs.

When working with children and young people, we take a family approach and so encourage parents/carers to be present for sessions where possible.
